Bay Area Cold Snap Brings Overnight Lows In 20s, Frost, Freeze Warning
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- Frost and freeze warnings were in effect for the second night in a row in the Bay Area, with temperatures expected to plummet into the 20s in the coldest locations. Many locations in the region will be dropping into the 30s.
The National Weather Service issued a frost advisory for San Francisco County, the Peninsula and the North Bay.
The warning is in effect from midnight until 8 a.m. Residents were warned the frost can harm or kill unprotected plants and outdoor animals are particularly vulnerable.
Overnight lows are expected to drop to 25 degrees in Santa Rosa, 27 degrees in Livermore, and 39 degrees in San Francisco.
Monday morning will be cool, as well.
Across the state, stormy weather in Southern California has blanketed some higher elevations with snow, making for challenging driving conditions.
People heading to ski resorts are advised to bring chains and drive with caution.
Meanwhile, a cold winter storm on the East Coast has caused wet roads to freeze, triggering numerous traffic accidents.
Two people were killed in Baltimore, after a tanker truck skidded off the highway and burst into flames. The accident caused a 50-car pileup and injured 15.
Dozens of traffic accidents were reported elsewhere in the East and the Midwest.
