Coast Guard Rescues Man, Dog Stranded In Boat Near San Mateo Bridge
SAN FRANCSICO BAY (BCN) -- The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a man and his dog Thursday evening after the man's boat became disabled near the San Mateo Bridge, an agency spokesman said.
The Coast Guard received a mayday call at 3:18 p.m. when the man's 33-foot cabin cruiser, the Yada Yada Yada, incurred engine trouble, Petty Officer Levi Read said.
The man was worried the boat, which was originally reported as a sailboat, was going to capsize.
The Coast Guard deployed a rescue helicopter and 25-foot response boat. A rescue swimmer was lowered from the helicopter and determined at about 4:25 p.m. that the man and his dog were safe and healthy, Read said.
A 41-foot utility boat was launched from Yerba Buena Island around 5:15 p.m., but weather conditions subsided enough for the 25-foot boat to tow the disabled cabin cruiser back to its homeport in San Leandro, according to Read.
The disabled boat was safely moored around 6:45 p.m.
