Coast Guard Rescues Fishing Boat Taking On Water Off SF Coast
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) - The Coast Guard came to the rescue of a fishing boat that was taking on water off the coast of San Francisco Wednesday night.
Coast Guard officials responded to a mayday call from a vessel that was about eight miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge at around 7:50 p.m.
The 31-foot commercial fishing vessel, Two Sons, had two passengers onboard, Coast Guard officials said.
The boat was being flooded with about 100 gallons of water per hour and the boaters were only able to discharge 20 gallons per hour using the onboard de-watering equipment, according to the Coast Guard.
A pilot boat, helicopter, lifeboat, and the Coast Guard's Cutter Tern, an 87-foot coastal patrol boat, were deployed to assist the vessel.
Rescuers gave the Two Sons passengers two de-watering pumps but they were unable to keep the pumps running and they could not keep up with the amount of water flooding the vessel, according to the Coast Guard.
Two crewmembers from the Tern went aboard the flooding boat to assist the passengers and they were able to completely de-water the vessel.
The fishing boat was escorted to Pier 45 in San Francisco Bay and no injuries were reported.
