Christian Bale On 'Batkid': 'It's So Touching'
(CBS NEWS) - Last week, a little boy named Miles Scott captured the hearts of pretty much anyone with access to the Internet. And the 5-year-old's big day as "Batkid" also captured the attention of a former Batman.
When asked about the young boy, who is battling leukemia and saved the day in San Francisco with the help of the Make-a-Wish Foundation and a bunch of volunteers, Christian Bale said he had heard about Miles and was floored by his story.
"Wasn't that fantastic?" he told Vulture while promoting his new film "Out of the Furnace." "I looked on the news and I saw this headline and thought, 'What's that?' And I saw all the pictures of him running around and saving people. It's so touching."
"What's his name, Miles?" Bale continued. "He must have been bewildered! Hopefully, later on, he'll be able to look back and say, 'Oh my God, how amazing.'"
He was equally floored by the way in which social media helped spread word of Miles' story and brought people together to cheer him on.
"I'm so far behind the times when it comes to things like that, I'm a dinosaur," he said. "I've never been on Twitter, but how great a thing that it can create something like that! I mean, wonderful. This little kid, oh my God -- what a wonderful day for the little fella! It's just fantastic, seeing all those people who were out there to support it."
Bale, of course, played the Caped Crusader in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. And he's not the only Bruce Wayne incarnation to wish Miles well. Adam West (who played Batman in the 1960s) and Ben Affleck (who'll play him in the upcoming "Man of Steel" sequel) also tweeted some kind words for their caped counterpart:
