Chris Hemsworth, Leslie Mann Could Join 'Vacation' Sequel Cast
(CBS NEWS) – There's going to be a couple of new additions to the "Vacation" family.
"The Other Woman" actress Leslie Mann and "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth are in talks to join the cast of the new comedy sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Vacation" will serve as the latest installment in the popular film series, which was originally based on stories from National Lampoon magazine.
Chevy Chase starred in the first outing, 1983's "National Lampoon's Vacation," written by John Hughes (based on one of his short stories) and directed by late "Ghosbusters" star Harold Ramis. Chase played the dim-witted but lovable patriarch Clark Griswald, who just wanted to take his wife Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo) and kids (Anthony Michael Hall, Dana Barron) on a cross-country road trip to the fictional theme park, Wally World. Unfortunately for Clark, not a single thing seems to go right on the trip.
The San Francisco-born Mann, who is the wife of Judd Apatow, is reportedly set to take over the role of Audrey, while Hemsworth will play her TV-anchor husband.
The new "Vacation" film will focus on Audrey's brother Rusty, here played by Ed Helms, and his family, as they embark on yet another ill-fated adventure. "Anchorman" actress Christina Applegate will play Helm's wife.
Fans of the original will also get to see Clark and Ellen reunited. Chase and D'Angelo have agreed to make appearances in the new film.
A release date has yet to be announced.
