CHP Officers Fatally Shoot Suspect In Stockton After Pursuit
STOCKTON (CBS SF/AP) -- California Highway Patrol officers fatally shot a man when he attempted to run them over following a pursuit in Stockton.
CHP Officer Angel Arceo says the chase began when a vehicle failed to yield for a traffic stop just after midnight Saturday.
The vehicle eventually crashed into fence. The two officers got out and hunkered down behind their car doors with weapons drawn.
Arceo says the suspect put his car in reverse and drove toward the officers, ramming the CHP cruiser. The officers opened fire, striking the driver and his passenger while the car was in motion.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger was hospitalized in stable condition. Their names were not released.
The incident is under investigation.
