CHP Officer, Sheriff's Deputy Hurt In Healdsburg Crash
HEALDSBURG (CBS SF) -- An officer and a Sonoma County sheriff's deputy were injured in a crash on U.S. Highway 101 in Healdsburg on Friday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Around 10 p.m., a CHP officer was driving a Ford Crown Victoria in the No. 1 lane north on U.S. Highway 101 north of the Healdsburg Avenue exit, CHP officials said.
The sheriff's deputy was a passenger sitting in the right front seat.
A piece of furniture was on the lane and as the officer swerved to the left to avoid it he overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle, according to the CHP.
The sedan slid to the east side of the road and its right rear crashed into a tree, CHP officials said.
The car then spun 180 degrees before it came to rest facing south on the east side of the road, according to the CHP.
The officer suffered a large laceration to the side of his head and the deputy complained of pain in his legs, CHP officials said.
The officer and deputy were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The vehicle was unmarked and belonged to the Sonoma County Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Team, according to the CHP.
The person who left the furniture on the road has not been identified, according to CHP officials.
