CHP Officer Hit By Car In San Jose While Helping Stranded Driver
SAN JOSE (CBS/AP) -- A California Highway Patrol officer was struck by a vehicle while trying to help a stranded motorist in San Jose, according to authorities.
The officer suffered a broken leg after stopping on Interstate 880 around 1:49 a.m. Friday.
CHP Officer Steve Griefer said the officer was helping a driver in a pickup truck who was stuck in the mud when a driver in a Lexus hit the pickup. The pickup then struck the officer.

The officer's partner called for backup.
Griefer says the Lexus's driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Neither the driver nor the officer's name has been released.
