CHP Chase Leads To Crash in San Leandro
SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- A San Leandro street has reopened Wednesday afternoon after a California Highway Patrol chase led to a collision, a CHP spokesman said.
Around 3 p.m. a vehicle failed to yield to a CHP stop on East 14th Street which led to a pursuit. The chase led the suspect to crash into a pickup truck traveling through the intersection at Sybil Avenue, CHP Officer Daniel Jacowitz said.
After the collision, the suspect took off from the car on foot.
Officers chased after him and detained him, Jacowitz said.
The man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and has been charged with evading police, Jacowitz said.
The pickup truck driver was hospitalized with moderate injuries, he said.
East 14th Street was closed between Warren and Sybil until just after 5 p.m.
Authorities are investigating if the vehicle the suspect was driving was stolen, Jacowitz said.
