CHP Chase Ends In San Leandro Crash
SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- A California Highway Patrol chase in San Leandro ended with a collision when the fleeing suspect's car struck a pickup truck and injured the driver Wednesday afternoon, according to a CHP spokesman.
Around 3:10 p.m. the driver of a 1995 white Honda Accord was traveling northbound when he failed to yield to a CHP stop on East 14th Street, which led to a pursuit, according to the CHP.
The driver attempted to pass a 1992 Toyota pickup truck, which was attempting to make a left turn onto westbound Harlan Street, but instead, the Honda crashed into the Toyota, a CHP officer said.
After the collision, the suspect took off from the car on foot. Officers chased after him and detained him with the assistance of a nearby resident, according to the CHP.
The suspect has been identified as a Santa Rosa man. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and has been charged with evading police, a CHP officer said.
The pickup truck driver, 28-year-old Jeremy Jacobs, of Berkeley, was hospitalized with moderate injuries, according to the CHP.
Authorities were investigating if the vehicle the suspect was driving was stolen, a CHP officer said.
