Chopper Rescues Boaters Near Point Bonita Lighthouse
SAUSALITO (CBS SF) -- Two men were rescued by helicopter Friday afternoon when their boat ran onto rocks after the engine failed near the Point Bonita lighthouse in Marin County, a search and rescue controller said.
People on shore spotted the disabled boat and notified the Coast Guard, which launched a boat to rescue the men aboard a 24-foot Bayliner around 1:15 p.m., Coast Guard search and rescue controller Danielle Couture said.
The Coast Guard boat could not get close enough because of the rocks and the National Park Service and a California Highway Patrol helicopter were called to assist with the rescue.
The boat was left on the rocks while the helicopter took the rescued men to hospital to be treated for minor injuries, Couture said.
The National Park Service is investigating the incident.
