Chinese Media Release Name Of Third Victim In Asiana Flight 214 Crash At SFO
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS/AP) -- The name of a girl who died of injuries suffered in the crash-landing of an Asiana Airlines flight in San Francisco recently has emerged early Saturday.
Chinese state media have identified her as Liu Yipeng. China News says she went to school with the other two victims killed in the crash. They were both 16.
She died Friday morning at San Francisco General Hospital where she had been in critical condition since the July 6 accident.
On Chinese social media sites, friends and strangers have left condolences and lit virtual candles on what is believed to be her micro blog.
Liu Yipeng had been listed in critical condition since being transported to the hospital from San Francisco International Airport after the crash on Saturday.
Third Victim Dies From Injuries Sustained in Asiana Airlines Crash
Her death on Friday was announced at a hastily called news conference outside the hospital emergency room just hours after the San Francisco Police Department confirmed that one of the teenage girls who died on the day of the crash had been run over by a fire truck.
San Francisco General Hospital Friday afternoon was still treating six patients, five adults and a child, who were injured in the crash at the airport on Saturday.
Two of those patients, both adults, were in critical condition with injuries that include spinal cord and abdominal trauma, road rash and bone fractures, hospital spokeswoman Rachael Kagan said.
The other four patients' conditions ranged from serious to fair to good, she said.
The hospital has handled a total of 67 patients who were injured in the crash, according to Kagan.
Early Friday morning the plane's fuselage was moved from the crash site to a section of the airport known as Plot 41 for temporary storage. Later, the Federal Avaiation Administration conducted a final inspection of Runway 28L before clearing it for reopening Friday afternoon.
