Chinese Inventor Designs Earthquake Bed
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Even in the heart of California's earthquake country, a Chinese inventor's design for an earthquake safety bed seems a little extreme.
Wang Wenxi says the idea for his earthquake bed came in the wake of killer earthquakes in Wenchuan and Yushu where collapsed buildings claimed thousands of lives.
When the earth begins to rumble, the bed will fold up, encasing the person in a protective cocoon and dropping them into a metal box.
Also included within the box will be a storage area for drinking water, canned food and other supplies that will allow the person to survive for several days before they can be rescued.
