Chick-Fil-A Denied Location By Mountain View's City Council
MOUNTAIN VIEW (KCBS)— Mountain View's City Council has denied Chick-fil-A a permit to open a fast-food restaurant on the busy El Camino Real at the recommendation of a zoning administrator.
After months of trying to break into the fast food market on the Peninsula, the recently controversial chicken eatery went down in defeat. Ultimately the restaurant was denied a permit for a drive-through location in Mountain View.
"This is not the right place for a fast food restaurant on El Camino," said City Council member Laura Macias. She defended the decision by saying it would have added too many cars in the area where they are trying to bring bicycles.
KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
"If we start installing more drive-throughs, that's not going to help us achieve our objectives. We just couldn't agree with what Chick-fil-A was proposing," she said.
Macias said company president Dan Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage had no bearing on the council's decision. Earlier this summer, the chicken restaurant was the subject of protests after Cathy said in an interview, "We are very much supportive of the family—the Biblical definition of the family unit … We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives."
Rashami Mulge, a fan of the restaurant, was disappointed by the council's decision. Mulge, who is originally from Colorado said, "We have plenty of Chick-fil-A there."
Chick-fil-A did not return requests for comment from KCBS as of Wednesday afternoon.
