Auction For Lunch With Billionaire Buffett To Benefit San Francisco's Glide Memorial Church
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- An auction for a lunch with billionaire investor Warren Buffett that benefits a San Francisco church kicked off its 15th year Sunday night.
In the past, Glide Memorial Baptist Church has raised as much as $3.9 million from a single fundraiser with Buffett.
"Susie said, why don't we have a bidding, a luncheon with you. He agreed, we agreed, and the agreement took place," Reverend Cecil Williams said.
The auction launched on ebay, with bids starting at $25 thousand, and topped $100 thousand in less than an hour of bidding.
Winners get a lunch with Buffett in New York City.
Money raised helps Glide's many programs, from sheltering the homeless, to healing the sick.
"Everyone has the responsibility of sharing their gifts, and their money, and that's what he (Warren) believes in very strongly," Williams said.
Last year's winning bid was just over $1 million.
