CBS 5 Poll: San Franciscans Tell Mirkarimi To Resign As Sheriff
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) -- A majority of San Franciscans believe Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi should resign from office following his guilty plea earlier this week to a lesser charge of false imprisonment stemming from a domestic violence incident with his wife, according to a new KPIX-TV CBS 5 poll.
The poll found 61 percent of city residents surveyed want Mirkarimi to leave office, while only 21 percent think he should remain sheriff.

If he doesn't step down on his own, another clear majority (58 percent) of San Franciscans said they think city leaders should take steps to remove Mirkarimi from office.
Other poll findings showed half of the city's residents (50 percent) felt Mirkarimi's sentence of probation - coupled with a fine and community service plus domestic violence classes - was too lenient, and nearly half (49 percent) felt prosecutors were wrong to offer Mirkarimi a plea bargain in the case.
The CBS 5 poll was conducted Tuesday by the firm SurveyUSA, which sampled 408 adults living in the city, and has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4.9 percent.
