CBS 5 Poll: Bay Area, Nation Now Believe U.S. Winning Terror War
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) -- Just like that, 60% of Bay Area residents and the nation at-large now say the U.S. is winning the war on terror, according to a newly released KPIX-TV CBS 5 poll.
Before Sunday night's capture of Osama Bin Laden, majorities of those in both the Bay Area and nationwide had thought the terrorists were winning -- based on data from SurveyUSA, who conducted the CBS 5 poll.
After the death of Bin Laden was announced, the poll shows 60% of Americans and those in the San Francisco Bay region believe the U.S. is winning the terror war, compared to 18% nationwide and 23% in the Bay Area who say the terrorists are still winning.
When this identical question was last asked by SurveyUSA on behalf of CBS 5, 41% nationally had said the U.S. was winning, while just 29% thought so in the Bay Area.
Americans by a 2-1 margin, along with a majority of Bay Area residents, agreed with the decision to bury Bin Laden's body at sea. An overwhelming majority both nationwide and locally still sees Al-Qaeda as a threat.
Long-term, a plurality of Americans think the death of Bin Laden will make the world a safer place, but in the Bay Area it was statistically an even-split with those who thought the death would make no difference as to whether the world is more dangerous, or safer.
