Suspect In San Jose Carjackings Rams Police Motorcycle During Chase
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - Police are searching for a man suspected in two carjackings Tuesday morning—one in Milpitas and a second in San Jose as police locked down a neighborhood looking for him.
The suspect, identified as Jarek Brown, was chased to San Jose Tuesday morning by Milpitas police after carjacking a BMW in that city.
He led officers to a south San Jose neighborhood, where he crashed in the area of Seven Trees Boulevard and Capitol Expressway at about 8:40 a.m., police spokesman Sgt. Jason Dwyer said.
He ran into a nearby neighborhood after the crash, and police told residents to shelter in place as they searched for him, Dwyer said.
However, while police were searching, Brown stole a car from the garage of a home in the 200 El Cajon Drive and drove off.
CBS 5 cameras caught the vehicle fleeing from the scene. A police motorcycle was broadsided during the pursuit, but no one was on it at the time.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
"During our search, the suspect broke into a person's house," Dwyer explained. "The homeowner came out of the garage yelling for help and the officers came over. The suspect drove a Toyota Camry out of the garage and fled the scene."
Brown is described as a white or Hispanic male about 5 foot 10 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, Dwyer said.
"He's believed to be armed with a handgun," Dwyer said.
