Career Advice From A San Francisco Marketing Manager
It's no surprise that tech salaries in the San Francisco Bay Area are the nation's highest, averaging $123,000 annually. As the tech sector enjoyed a positive trend for new jobs in 2013, expectations are just as high in the next two years. One highly talented individual who's spent a number of years in Silicon Valley is Kaushal Vora, a product marketing manager at Cypress Semiconductor in San Jose. Here he explains some of the positions he's held and gives advice for individuals interested in entering a career in high-tech.
What is your current title and educational background?
"I'm a Product Marketing Manager in the Communications Segment at Cypress Semiconductor in Silicon Valley. I lead a cross-functional team of seven to define and develop reference designs for Power Supervision, Thermal Management, Optical Module Management and SSD Management targeting high reliability telecom and enterprise computing applications. I have a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC) and a B.S. in Engineering and Electronic Engineering from the University of Mumbai."
What other positions have you held in the tech industry?
"I've also served as a Staff Applications Engineer and during this time, provided support for key video accounts, created device data sheets and applications and organized and presented at internal Cypress Semiconductor conferences. I also served as Senior Applications Engineer with Cypress Semiconductor and led field support and next-generation product discussions at CAT-A accounts and select CAT-B accounts worldwide and as an Embedded Design Engineer with Avent, in Banagalore, India."
What advice can you offer for people interested in pursuing a career in high-tech?
"The high-tech industry is a great field to pursue. A lot of innovation is currently happening on the software/web 2.0 front. Most management positions generally require at least a bachelor's degree, but a master's degree in the field definitely makes an impression when pursuing a career in high-tech."
