Car Plows Into Home In Oakland's Chinatown
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A man crashed into a house in Oakland's Chinatown neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, prompting a gas leak and evacuations, a fire captain said.
Emergency responders were dispatched to reports of a minivan into a house at the intersection of Alice and Seventh streets around 2:15 p.m., Oakland fire Capt. Marshall McKee said.
The minivan plowed through the lower half of the home's front porch, taking out a gas meter and an electrical panel, he said.
The minivan's driver was taken to Highland Hospital with minor injuries, and police are investigating what caused the crash.
McKee said two residents inside the home at the time and people from about half a dozen surrounding homes and businesses all evacuated safely.
PG&E crews were able to clamp off an underground gas line and fire crews are working to shore up the building in order to remove the vehicle.
