1 Dead, 3 Injured After Car Hits Pedestrians In East Oakland; DUI Driver Flees, Is Captured

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A pedestrian was killed and three others injured when a driver who was under the influence plowed into them after hitting another parked car in East Oakland Sunday evening. The driver fled the scene but was arrested shortly after, police said.

The collision happened along the 5400 block of Bancroft Ave. at around 6:51 p.m., according to Oakland police. There were reports of sideshow activity nearby at around the same time.

Police said four people were standing outside of 5450 Bancroft Avenue when a gray 2013 Chevrolet Malibu traveling westbound on Bancroft swerved into a parked car and then collided into the group.

A 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while three other men - 39, 45 and 50 years old - were hospitalized. One of them was in critical condition, the other two were in stable condition, police said.

The driver of the Malibu fled scene after the collision, but officers were able to locate and arrest him for hit-and-run and driving under the influence. He was identified as a 29-year-old Oakland resident.

The identities of the suspect and the victims were not immediately released.
