Canyon Fire: Cooler Temps, Higher Humidity Help Firefighters Get Upper Hand
LAKE BERRYESSA (CBS SF) -- State Highway 128 is open and evacuated residents were allowed back home Tuesday afternoon in the area of the Canyon Fire in Napa County.
The vegetation fire south of Lake Berryessa has burned 64 acres and is 85 percent contained as of Tuesday evening, according to Cal Fire.. Nine homes were evacuated.
Cool temperatures and high humidity helped firefighters make good progress suppressing the vegetation fire and constructing control lines Monday night, fire prevention specialist Bruce Lang said.
The fire was reported at 1:15 p.m. Monday. No structures have been damaged or destroyed and no injuries were reported, Lang said.
Cal Fire said 160 total fire personnel were at the fire Tuesday. The cause is under investigation. Fire crews will remain on scene for at least a few days, Cal Fire said.
