Candlestick Park Featured In Ron Howard's Upcoming Beatles Movie

(CBS SF) -- San Francisco's Candlestick Park will play a part in the Beatles movie due out next year.

Ron Howard, a long-time fan of the fab four, is directing and producing a documentary about the Beatles' touring years, including their final public concert at Candlestick Park in 1966.

By then, the Beatles had performed 166 concerts in 15 countries and 90 cities around the world.

Howard said the film will explore why the Beatles became so popular by examining the era's social and political context using concert footage shot on movie cameras by fans and mixes of sound board recordings.

The film is being made with the cooperation of former Beatles Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney, as well as Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison -- the widows of John Lennon and George Harrison.
