Campus Racism Documented On SJSU Campus 2-Years Ago
SAN JOSE (KCBS) — Two years before recent hate-crime allegations as San Jose State University, African-American students had reported incidents of racist treatment on campus to administrators in a study that was never published.
The diversity study, conducted in 2011, found that African-American students experienced racist behavior from professors, coaches and other students.

The study was submitted during the same year but was never published after President Mo Qayoumi disbanded the advisory group in charge of the study.
The report comes to light as the University investigates hate crime charges against four white freshmen who allegedly abused a black dorm mate.
University spokeswoman Pat Lopes Harris told KCBS that the problems in the report were well known and that it wasn't a secret swept under the rug.
"It wasn't intentional at all. It was likely due to changes in the administration," she said.
Qayoumi, she said, has already formed a new committee to gather data on the challenges that go along with having a diverse campus.
