Caltrans Records Show Possible Defects In New Bay Bridge's Foundation
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) – Records have been found of an apparent defect in the construction of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.
Records provided by Caltrans last fall show that a builder failed to report that a 19-foot section of concrete in the foundation of the span's tower had not hardened before tests were conducted.
By failing to disclose the matter, the builder prevented further examination or repair of the concrete.

Caltrans records show that two of the 13 piles built to hold up the main tower were also not tested properly.
Caltrans spokeswoman Tamie McGowen said in an email that the agency was confident in the structural integrity of the structure.
