Caltrain Turns To Another Agency For Possible Bailout
OAKLAND (KCBS) – Facing a $30 million budget deficit and possible draconian service cuts, Caltrain has now turned to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission for help.
MTC Commissioner Jon Rubin said his agency hears the plea for help loud and clear.
"I assure the 427 million people that have sent me emails and blown my entire electrical network into oblivion that we're keenly aware of the issue with Caltrain," said Rubin. "And I think we're all very concerned, but enthusiastic about solving the problem."

Bruce Jenkins with the Rail Passenger Association of California said the proposal to eliminate all but weekday commute time service would put jobs in peril.
"We implore you, we really urge you to seek emergency funding for Caltrain," said Jenkins. "And please do it now. Jobs are at stake."
One proposal being bandied about is to borrow from the Dumbarton Bridge Seismic Retrofit Fund.
A $5 million bailout could be on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission agenda as early as March 9.
