Caltrain To Expand Weekend Service For 3 Months
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Less than six months after warning budget problems might force it to end Saturday and Sunday train service, Caltrain has announced it will be expanding its service on weekends.
Caltrain says on Jan. 1 it will begin operating its "Baby Bullet" express trains on weekends.
As part of a three-month trial program the trains, which only stop at seven major stations between San Francisco and San Jose, will be added to Caltrain's normal weekend operating schedule.
Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn told The San Francisco Examiner trains will make one round-trip in the morning and evening. To keep costs low, one crew will work all four trains.
Caltrain says it will review ridership and financial data to see if the express service will stay past the three-month period.
