Southbay Caltrain Service Resumes After 2 Fatalities On Tracks
PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- A second person was struck and killed on Caltrain tracks Saturday on the Peninsula, according to a Caltrain spokeswoman. After major delays, service has resumed on a single track.
At about 11:10 a.m., northbound train No. 801, a Baby Bullet express train, hit an unidentified person at the California Avenue Caltrain station in Palo Alto, spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.
A middle-aged man was killed by the same train near the same spot last Saturday.
At 12:13 p.m., southbound train No. 428 struck and killed a person on the tracks just north of the Menlo Park station, Dunn said.
Of the passengers on board that local southbound train making all stops, 120 elected to exit the train at the station, she said.
As of 12:50 p.m., trains were not operating on the southbound track at Menlo Park, but service in both directions had resumed at reduced speeds on the northbound track.
Dunn said northbound train No. 429 will stop at Redwood City and Millbrae stations before terminating in San Francisco and that northbound train No. 431 will operate as a local train and make all stops.
Saturday's deaths are the 15th and 16th on Caltrain's tracks this year.
