Caltrain May Not Be An Option For Fans Traveling To Giants Games
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - San Francisco Giants baseball fans, especially those on the Peninsula and in the South Bay, could soon be striking out when it comes to taking Caltrain to the ballpark following a key decision on service cuts set for Thursday.
KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:
"We have almost 6,000 people who take the train to a Giants game on an average game," said Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn.
She said that proposed service reductions include doing away with weekend and midday service, which would send some commuters to their cars.
The cuts would also do away with special trains for events like Giants games and games of the San Jose Sharks and Stanford Cardinal.
"Eliminating midday trains would make it much more difficult for me to get to work," said one man. "I'd have to take the bus all of the way to Mountain View, or I'd have to buy a car."
Service reductions for the system, which is facing a $30 million deficit, would take effect on July 1st.
