Man Fatally Struck By Caltrain In Palo Alto
PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- Caltrain service has resumed normally after a commuter train struck and killed a person on the tracks in Palo Alto Friday night, a Caltrain spokeswoman said.
A southbound train hit a male on the tracks near East Meadow Drive around 7:30 p.m., Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.
The train stopped and Caltrain service was temporarily shut down with no service to the California Avenue station. Bus bridges were established between the Palo Alto Station and the California Avenue station.
Around 9:15 p.m. the northbound track was opened and the bus bridge was canceled, with trains moving through the area at reduced speed.
None of the roughly 200 passengers on board the train were injured.
Trains continued through the area on a single track Friday night, but at full speed with trains moving through the area according to the regular hourly schedule.
This is the first Caltrain fatality of 2013. The last fatality was on Dec. 14, 2012, and was the 12th fatality of 2012.
