Props 20 & 27: Redistricting Panel Expanded
SACRAMENTO (CBS / AP) -- Californians have rejected a proposal to abolish a commission tasked with redrawing the state's legislative districts, while approving an expansion of the panel's role to redefine the state's congressional districts.
While Proposition 27, which sought to eliminate the commission, was defeated Tuesday night, its opposing measure was approved.
Proposition 20 puts the commission in charge of drawing congressional district boundaries.
In 2008, Californians voted to create a 14-member panel to handle state Senate, Assembly and Board of Equalization district boundaries—a job previously held by the state Legislature.
