California The Least Democrat-Friendly State On The West Coast?
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - If you're planning to run for office with a donkey on your campaign flyer you are better off gracing the ballot in Washington or Oregon than California, according to new rankings from The Hill.
The Hill ranked all 50 states from the most Democrat-minded to the most republican-friendly, based on the makeup of the legislature as well as voting histories in recent presidential, congressional and gubernatorial races. California ranked as the fourth most safe place for Democrats, behind Washington, Minnesota and Oregon in that order.
It appears California moved slightly lower down the list relative to the other West Coast states based on the recent tenure of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the fact that the state went red for George H.W. Bush in 1988. All of the above states, as well as most of the other ten bluest states, shared democrat-controlled legislatures with primarily blue congressional delegations.
Alabama, Alaska and Idaho are the most Republican-dominated states. See the full list here.
