California Has Higher Standards for Egg Testing
California egg producers are standing behind their products despite a national recall spurred by salmonella poisoning.
In Petaluma, one producer says California eggs must meet a higher standard.
The recall has not slowed egg production at Sunrise Farms where about a million eggs a day are being produced and shipped daily.
A partner in the farm says they haven't had a problem in 15 years. He said he does twice as much testing as required by federal rules.
He adds California sets a higher standard for egg safety.
"If people got their hands slapped for committing violations, perhaps it would stop," he said.
The farmer added there have been no problems with salmonella in eggs grown in California in at least ten years. The eggs that have been the focus of the recall are from the Midwest.
