California Democrats Back Gun Control, Prop 13 Reforms
SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- California Democrats have adopted resolutions affirming many of their biggest political goals, including changes to California's landmark property tax limitation law, Proposition 13, support for gun control and opposition to hydraulic fracturing.
Democrats on Sunday also urged President Barack Obama to reject the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada. More than 2,000 delegates adopted the resolutions on the final day of their annual convention in Sacramento.
The party faithful also affirmed their continued support for California's environmental quality law, known as CEQA. Gov. Jerry Brown, a fellow Democrat, and the state's legislative leaders have said they want to make changes to the four decade-old law this year.
Support for immigration reform and gay marriage and urging the Obama administration to end unlawful drone strikes were among the other resolutions adopted Sunday.
