California Adult Day Health Care Cuts Protested Statewide
SACRAMENTO (AP) - California elder care advocates planned a series of actions around the state to protest budget cuts that would eliminate adult day health care programs that serve about 37,000 fragile seniors.
California Association for Adult Day Services Executive Director Lydia Missaelides said a 5-foot-high stacks of signatures will be delivered Thursday morning to the offices of Gov. Jerry Brown, Senate President Pro Tem Darrel Steinberg and Assembly Speaker John Perez.
More than 110,000 signatures were collected from constituents all over the state.
In Southern California, protests were scheduled outside the Glendale offices of state Sen. Carol Liu, the Long Beach offices of Sen. Alan Lowenthal and the Walnut offices of Sen. Bob Huff.
Advocates said the Senate Budget Committee voted last week to eliminate funding for the program.
