Cal Women Pull Away In 2nd Half To Beat USC
BERKELEY (AP) -- DeNesha Stallworth had 21 points and Lindsay Sherbert 19 as California took over in the second half to knock off USC 82-71 Thursday night.
Layshia Clarendon added 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Bears (11-6, 3-3 Pac-10), who outrebounded USC 32-22 and hit 9 of 18 3-point attempts.
Briana Gilbreath had 20 points and Cassie Harberts a career-high 18 for the Trojans (12-5, 4-2).
The Bears were coming off a lost weekend in the Northwest, where they were swept by Washington and Washington State. Those schools were a combined 9-21 when Cal played them.
Playing at home, where they are now 9-1, the Bears hit four of their first five 3-pointers during an uptempo first half that featured seven lead changes and three ties. After leading 44-40 at the break, Cal used a 12-2 run early in the second half to pull away.
