Cable Car Conductor Stabbing Suspect Pleads Not Guilty
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) -- A 32-year-old man suspected of stabbing a San Francisco Municipal Railway cable car conductor on Sunday pleaded not guilty in court Thursday to charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, according to the district attorney's office.
George Luong, of San Francisco, is accused of knifing 55-year-old Larry Gee inside his cable car near Mason and Jackson streets around 4:15 p.m. The car was stopped during track maintenance operations.
Gee, a 12-year veteran of the agency, was stabbed several times in the torso and arms. He was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, police said.
San Francisco General Hospital spokeswoman Rachael Kagan said Thursday that Gee is recovering at the hospital and is in fair condition.
Police have said witnesses to the stabbing heard "screaming and arguing," and saw an altercation between the suspect and the victim. A motive for the attack is unknown.
Luong was arrested at his apartment on Himmelmann Place a few blocks away, where officers found fresh blood outside the building, according to police.
Luong is being held on $1 million bail and is due back in court Dec. 14.
