By The Numbers: Klay Thompson Steps Up In Curry's Absence
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The Golden State Warriors are 6-1 so far in the NBA playoffs.
Not a shocking statement given they set an NBA record for regular season wins. But it is rather stunning when you consider they have played without reigning NBA MVP Steph Curry in all both two of those games.
So how have they done it?
Certainly, Draymond Green has stepped up his game as has last year's NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala and backup centers Mo Speights and Festus Ezeli.
But real difference has been Klay Thompson.
He is averaging 25.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.3 steals and just two turnovers a contest during the current playoff run.
While Curry has a deadly outside shooting touch, Thompson can hurt you from anywhere on the court.
But that's not surprising, since his playoff performance is merely a continuation of the pattern he's had all season.
And while more of the scoring load has fallen on his shoulder with Curry out, Thompson still is letting the game come to him. He hasn't strayed much from the kind of shots he has taken all season.
