With Jeter Retired, Is Buster Posey The Face Of Major League Baseball?
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (CBS SF) - Buster Posey is just 27-years-old, the age when some in baseball say players are just hitting their prime. But unlike his contemporaries, Posey is already being asked to reflect on his career success.
After arriving in Scottsdale for the start of Spring Training Wednesday, Posey sat down with CBS's Jeff Glor, who asked the former Rookie of the Year and MVP about the dynasty label people have thrown at the Giants following their third World Series win.
As you might expect. Posey dodged the praise. Here's the clip:
The stoic Giants backstop did acknowledge being flattered by comparisons to Yankees legend Derek Jeter, but couldn't really put into words what made Jeter great.
"Any time you are compared to Derek Jeter it's the ultimate compliment," said Posey. "When I think of Jeter, I think of a guy who won a lot of baseball games. That's my ultimate goal in my career."
Recent articles from ESPN, USA Today and The New York Times have suggested that the players share similar demeanor and early career paths, with some even going so far to say that Posey is the new face of baseball following Jeter's retirement last fall.
Posey, along with David Wright of the Mets and Sean Doolittle of the A's are among the semi-finalists for an MLB-run Twitter contest to be named "The face of Major League Baseball."
