Burglary Suspect Surrenders Following Hours-Long Standoff In Oakland
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A burglary suspect who barricaded himself in a West Oakland home for about four hours Friday has surrendered, police said.
Around 10:45 a.m., a man in his 20s went into an Oakland Unified School District office, took several laptops and fled, police said.
School officers pursued the suspect, who was on his bicycle, and he eventually barricaded himself inside a residence in the 700 block of Adeline Street.
Police surrounded the home and attempted to get the man to come out.
The man finally exited the home and was taken into custody around 2:40 p.m., according to police.
Northbound traffic on Adeline Street was shut down between Fifth and Eighth streets during the incident. Union Street between Seventh and Eighth streets was also closed.
Police have not yet released the man's identity.
