Burglars Ransack American Red Cross Trailer In Salinas
SALINAS (CBS SF) -- Salinas police are seeking suspects in the burglary of generators, batteries and other items from the American Red Cross on Monday, police said Tuesday.
The Red Cross notified police about the burglary at 942 Lupin Drive at about 9 a.m. Monday, according to police Cmdr. Stan Cooper.
Officers determined that between last Thursday and Monday, while the facility was closed for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, someone broke into three trailers used by the Red Cross in a side parking lot, Cooper said.
The suspect or suspects cut the locks securing the trailers and stole two portable generators, seven heavy-duty lights, two car batteries, 12 military-style clamshell cots and some cables, police said.
The Red Cross stored the items to be available for the community during emergencies and for disaster relief, Cooper said.
Anyone with information about the thefts may call the Salinas Police Department at (831) 758-7350 or the WeTip Hotline at (800) 782-7463.
