Budget Talks To Resume As Schwarzenegger Recovers
SACRAMENTO (AP) -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and legislative leaders will continue their budget talks in Santa Monica as the governor recovers from a cold.
Schwarzenegger met with Democratic and Republican leaders of the Assembly and Senate for four hours Wednesday at his private office.
Aides to the lawmakers said there were no announcements related to negotiations over how to close California's $19 billion deficit.
Talks are scheduled to resume Thursday morning, but the day will pass without the governor signing a spending plan. When that happens, it will mark the longest California has gone into its fiscal year without an approved budget.
The governor has been away from the Capitol since Friday, battling what his spokesman says is a cold. Democratic leaders brought him matzo ball soup Wednesday to speed his recovery.
