Brush Fire Scorches 40 Acres In Napa County
NAPA COUNTY (CBS / AP) -- Fire crews have been battling a brush fire in Napa County for more than ten hours Thursday and expect the battle to continue throughout the night.
The blaze has burned about 40 acres in unincorporated Napa County north of the city of Napa and is 50 percent contained, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Julie Hutchinson said Thursday night.
The fire started at around 12:30 p.m. when a controlled burn spread on the property, Napa County Sheriff Capt. Tracey Stuart said.
The blaze is in the scarcely populated area in the 3200 block of Soda Canyon Road near Silverado Trail.
Cal Fire spokesman Daniel Berlant said strong winds are helping to fan the fire, while dry brush has been providing fuel for the blaze.
Three homes are threatened by the fire, although the threat has been mitigated as fire crews continue to gain control, Hutchinson said.
Some 200 firefighters are at the scene Thursday night and additional crews will arrive Friday morning for relief, Hutchinson said.
No injuries have been reported.
