Crews Knock Down Brush Fire At Point Pinole In Richmond

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- Fire units were able to knock down a brush fire burning in a regional park area near the Richmond shoreline Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.

CHP first reported the fire at about 12:15 p.m.

A large plume of smoke could be seen rising from the fire in an area off of Interstate 580 near Bayview Avenue from across the Bay Area.

Chopper 5 video showed that several Richmond Fire Department units were on the scene and firefighters appeared to be getting the upper hand on the fire.

The fire seemed to be burning brush and what looked like debris from a possible homeless encampment in a remote portion of the regional open space near the Richmond shore.

Crews had the fire under control within 30 minutes.
