Brush Fire Near Crockett Slows Traffic On I-80
CROCKETT (CBS SF) -- A brush fire near Interstate Highway 80 in Crockett has been contained at around 45 acres, according to a Crockett-Carquinez Fire Department official.
The fire, reported around 3:45 p.m., was contained around 5:30 p.m., Assistant Chief Paul Contestable said.
It initially threatened some homes, but firefighters were able to protect the structures and no damage was reported, Contestable said.
The fire's cause has not yet been determined, but it appears to have originated near the freeway, Contestable said.
The fire initially caused the closure of the right lane on westbound I-80 near the Cumming Skyway offramp and poor visibility in the area, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The lane has since reopened but the offramp remains closed, according to the CHP.
