Bruce Jenner Inducted Into San Jose Sports Hall Of Fame
SAN JOSE (CBS 5) -- The San Jose Sports Hall of Fame has inducted its first decathlete, Olympic track legend Bruce Jenner.
Jenner joined four other South Bay sports icons who were inducted during a ceremony this week at HP Pavilion.
The sixteenth class of inductees also included: Arturs Irbe, All-Star San Jose Sharks goaltender; Keri Sanchez, NCAA Women's Soccer Champion; Dave and Mark Schultz, Olympic wrestling legends.
Following his tenth place decathlon finish at the 1972 Olympic games in Munich, Germany, Jenner dedicated himself to preparing for the 1976 Games and San Jose City College served as his primary training facility.
His presence in the San Jose area was part of what made San Jose a hotbed for training elite track and field athletes during that era.
He went on to win a gold medal in the Decathlon at the 1976 Summer Olympics, while setting a world record of 8,634 points.
San Jose City College later hosted the "Bruce Jenner Classic" as a televised, annual stop on the United States Track and Field Circuit for nearly twenty years, and Jenner frequently hosted the meets' telecasts.
Jenner currently can be found spending time with his family onscreen on the E! Network cable television program "Keeping up with the Kardashians."
