Brown Supports Raising California Minimum Wage To $10 An Hour
SACRAMENTO (KCBS) — Governor Jerry Brown says he supports legislation what would increase California's minimum wage from $8 to $10 an hour by 2015.
The bill to boost the wage passed the state Assembly in May and awaits a vote in the Senate, which faces a Friday deadline to pass the legislation.
The governor said the minimum wage has not kept pace with rising costs and the legislation to increase it is overdue and will help struggling families.
The California Chamber of Commerce described the bill as a job killer. Its leaders said increased wages would drive up costs for business owners and stall gains made in the recent economic recovery.
The bill is authored by Watsonville Democratic Assemblyman Luis Alejo.
The current San Francisco minimum wage is $10.55, in San Jose it's $10 an hour.
