Bay Bridge Construction Ahead Of Schedule
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS/AP) - Construction on the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge might wrap up in time for traffic to run in both directions at the end of 2013, Caltrans officials said.
Construction is four to six months ahead of schedule, with more steel beams for the suspension span's signature tower due to arrive by the middle of December.
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
The new parts will raise the tower above 300 feet, putting the work squarely in view of drivers headed into the city.
Last year, bridge officials offered a package of incentives last December to speed fabrication of the bridge's steel deck and tower segments in China.
