Brentwood Suspect Arrested Following Police Chase, Crash
OAKLEY (CBS SF) -- A suspected auto thief was arrested Monday following a high-speed chase that began in Brentwood and ended in a crash on an Oakley street, police said.
Brentwood police said the incident began around 11 a.m. Monday.
Officers on patrol spotted a car that was reported to have been stolen driving near O'Hara Ave. and Grant St. and attempted a vehicle stop. But instead of stopping the vehicle sped away and police began a pursuit.
The car sped into Antioch, but crashed a short time later, flipping over at Main Street and O'Hara Ave.
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Jorge Lara of Brentwood, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. He was later released and then arrested on charges of auto theft, evading police, a probation violation and an outstanding warrant.
Police said that Lara may have been under the influence of methamphetamine.
