Elderly Man, 28-Year-Old Arrested After Street Race, Crash In Brentwood
BRENTWOOD (CBS SF) – An elderly man and another man were arrested on Monday morning for engaging in a speed contest that resulted in a crash in Brentwood, according to police.
Around 9 a.m. Monday, a 74-year-old Brentwood resident and a 28-year-old Antioch resident began a race after a red light on Sand Creek Road at O'Hara Avenue, Lt. Sal DiMercurio said.
As the older man's Honda S2000 was speeding alongside the younger man's Nissan 350Z, he had to make a sudden lane change because of a crew working in the median in front of him, DiMercurio said.
As he did so, he crossed in front of the other motorist and was broadsided, causing both vehicles to spin out of control, according to DiMercurio.
The Honda came to rest on a dirt shoulder while the Nissan was launched into the air and flipped as it entered an embankment near the Marsh Creek Trail, DiMercurio said.
Although neither party was injured, both men were arrested on suspicion of partaking in a speed contest, DiMercurio said.
Their names were not immediately available and they were later released with notices to appear in court. Their vehicles were towed, police said.
